Leadership

A Letter from Our Founder

Dear Families,

Welcome to Growing Up Green Charter Schools. I am thrilled and honored that you have chosen our network of schools for your child’s education.

As the Founder and Executive Director of Growing Up Green Charter Schools, my overarching goal is for Growing Up Green to provide children with a strong foundation for learning and prepare them to become the leaders of tomorrow.

I want students who attend Growing Up Green Charter Schools to be independent thinkers who are curious about the world around them. Students who always remain passionate about the issues they believe in without being divisive in their approach to coming up with productive, positive, solutions. I want our students to remain open to ideas they might not share with others while showing a willingness to have their fixed views challenged and to embrace people for who they are, and always show compassion and love towards others.

Over the last 15 years, Growing Up Green has achieved lots of successes. Last year, our seventh Growing Up Green I 8th-grade graduating class of students, and GUG II’s first graduating class of 8th-grade students, were accepted into some of the top-performing high schools in New York.

The school’s success over the last 15 years is no accident. It is a result of an outstanding team of administrators, teachers, social workers, deans, and operations folks who each day are committed to seeing that children at Growing Up Green receive the academic, social, and emotional support they need to succeed at the highest level. Our success is also because of the strong relationships we have with the families of Growing Up Green and the relationships we have developed with community leaders in Queens.

As the schools move forward, we will remain focused on continuing to improve our practices to make sure that children who graduate from Growing Up Green are prepared for the future challenges they will face in high school and beyond.

Thank you again for choosing Growing Up Green. Please feel free to send me an email or make an appointment to meet with me directly if you are interested in learning more about the schools’ history and education philosophy.

With warm regards,

Matthew Greenberg
