Read-a-thon

SUPPORT OUR READERS!

From October 14th and October 31st, our amazing students will be reading reading reading in an effort to raise funds for all the programs and practices that make Growing Up Green special!

As a GUG parent, family member, or friend, you can support your students’ efforts by pledging to sponsor their reading by page or donate a flat amount in their name. Every donation counts towards their class’s participation and a chance at a pizza party!

Still want to get involved and you’re not a parent, family member, or friend of a current GUG student? Become Literacy Hero, and sponsor all of our kids who don’t necessarily have a sponsor of their own!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Read-a-Thon?

Growing Up Green’s annual Read-a-Thon is a literacy-focused fundraiser that raises money for the programs that make GUG special and get kids reading at the same time.

What is GUG raising money for?

We’re raising money for all the programs and practices that make GUG special! This includes our famous field trips, school supplies (including technology like smartboards and Chromebooks) for every student, sports and athletics, afterschool scholarships, and clubs!

I am a parent, family member, or friend of a GUG student. How can I support my student(s)?

Pledge to donate a certain amount per page! Your student will be bringing home a sheet that tracks how many pages they have read – when they finish a book, or whenever you’re ready, make a donation on this page.

For example: You pledge to donate $0.15 per page, your child reads a 200 page book and logs the number of pages – you then calculate the number of pages times the amount pledged (200 x 0.15) = $30 total!

I don’t have a student at Growing Up Green, how can I join the fun?

Donate any amount of money to our fundraising page as a “Literacy Hero”!

What is a Literacy Hero?

Literacy Heroes (formerly known as Angel Sponsors) are members of our community who donate to the general Read-a-Thon fund in order to give sponsorships to children whose families are unable to donate in their name. Typically, there are over 60 students across our four campuses who ask to be sponsored by Literacy Hero each Read-a-Thon. As a Literacy Hero, you will help boost a child who needs support!
